Recruiting / Screening Process

On Call Staffing Solutions is dedicated to attracting top talent to ensure availability of quality candidates for our clients. On Call recruits candidates using a "think outside of the box" approach. Recruiting efforts are predominantly driven to take advantage of our business tenure with a focus on prior associate reactivations and/or referrals. All activity in this regard is facilitated through our Applicant Tracking System which contains over 10,000 previously placed associates and an additional 100,000 potential candidates.

Beyond previously placed associates, potential candidates and referrals from both, On Call also employs more traditional methods including searching and posting on various internet job boards (Monster, Careerbuilder, Dice, and; varying social media sites (LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter); consistent participation at industry specific job fairs and networking events; and referrals from local career centers, junior colleges, and universities.

Our screening process, once we have identified a potential candidate, is a multi-part process including:

  • An in-depth telephone screen to evaluate their professionalism, ability to articulate, presentation, technical aptitude, and their interest in the opportunity.
  • Upon completing this pre-screen and assuming the candidate is qualified, we then schedule a formal interview with the candidate.
  • The third step requires the candidate to register with On Call via our online registration system and fill out all necessary employment paperwork.
  • The fourth step is the actual interview. This is the most intensive part of our screening and assessment process. Duration of an interview is typically 45-60 minutes depending on the experience level of the candidate. We cover and assess everything from technical strengths, desirable areas of travel, communication skills, past salary history, professionalism, reason for leaving past jobs, desired salary, upcoming vacation time or doctor visits, strengths, weaknesses, availability, software knowledge and understanding, long term goals, verifying references provided are supervisors, personality, in-depth conversation about job duties, responsibilities, and size of previous companies worked for, etc.
  • For appropriate roles, the candidate is also tested with the Prove It! testing software to assess both their computer knowledge and proficiency and their prior experience (administrative, accounting, technical, etc.).
  • Lastly, On Call requires that each candidate provide a minimum of two professional references (name, telephone number, company, and title) of supervisors only. We call each reference as part of the screening and assessment process before placing the candidate. If we obtain positive references, we then proceed with placement.

During the registration process all candidates also complete a background authorization form which gives us the authority, upon offer of a placement, to initiate a background screen (upon Client request). Results are typically returned within 48 hours, unless there are issues wherein it may take 3-5 business days.

Certain Clients of On Call also require successful passing of a drug/alcohol screen prior to placement. Similar to the background authorization form, all candidates also complete a drug/alcohol screening authorization form during the registration process, so we can initiate the screening upon offer of a placement. Drug/alcohol screening results are typically returned within 48 hours.
