Description:

A large healthcare organization in San Diego seeks an Analyst/Coding Compliance Coordinator.  This position, under the supervision of the Coding Compliance Supervisor, will help coordinate the Coding Compliance Audit process. Coding audits will encompass all areas of coding & abstracting, & includes Peer Review & reviewing of external audit findings. Coding of diagnoses & procedures is performed on inpatient & outpatient encounters. It includes capturing of co-morbidities & complications, procedure code modifiers, appropriate sequencing, assigning DRG's, & APR-DRG's. Data specific to each visit is abstracted into Epic database for the revenue cycle, research, OSHPD, data comparison studies, & medical record reviews. Position will help educate coders, CDI specialists & providers in ensuring their coding practices are in compliance with company’s standards. Position also works closely with documentation improvement audits or projects with CDI & HID System teams, as needed. Will serve as a back-up to coding, as needed.
 

Requirements:

  •  Associate's Degree (Minimum)
  • Area of Study in a Field Related to the Position
  • 3 Years of Experience (Minimum)
  • 5 Years of Experience (Preferred)
  • (Minimum) Three years inpatient coding experience.
  • (Minimum) Possesses strong communication skills adaptable to a wide variety of interpersonal encounters with various health care professionals.
  • (Minimum) Understanding of advanced coding principles and reimbursement methodology.
  • (Minimum) Expert knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding nomenclature as well as medical record science, medical terminology, anatomy/physiology, pathophysiology, data entry/display, and various grouper programs (MS DRG's, APCs, APR-DRG's).
  • (Minimum) Ability to code all types of patient records, with the ability to cross train coding staff.
  • (Minimum) Strong Computer/PC skills essential.
  • (Preferred) Experience and understanding of ICD-10 coding and training.
  •  (Preferred) Experience with APR DRG reimbursement system preferred.
  • (Preferred) Experience with 3M encoder.
  • (Preferred) Experience with working within an Electronic Medical Record environment, preferably Epic.
  • (Preferred) Extensive Hospital Coding Experience. Pediatric experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum Certification / Licensure includes either a Certified Coding Specialist Licenses OR a Registered Health Info Amin OR a Registered Health Info Tech.
